Alternative Energy

Alternative energy is a term used to describe an energy option different than the standard. Generally, there is an implication within the term that the different energy resource is a clean choice than normal. For that reason, fossil fuels and nuclear energy are not usually described as falling under this term.

Sources of alternative energy are becoming of greater and greater interest to people today. This is because of the carbon dioxide emissions associated with fossil fuels. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), such emissions have been determined to be significantly responsible for global warming.

Alternative energy is often associated with renewables. These are sources for power which naturally renew themselves. Solar, wind, and water are a few examples of such renewable choices. Some possibilities, such as biomass, could potentially be renewable when handled responsibly.
