Energy Efficient

Energy efficient products, as the term suggests, are those that are optimized for energy usage. A significant part of the concept behind such items and appliances is that they provide at least the same level of quality as standard appliances. The difference is solely to be found in the amount of power which they require.

In many countries, they way to identify energy efficient appliances is by looking for the blue Energy Star label. This international standard was created in 1992 as a United States government program. Since then, many other countries have adopted it, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the European Union, and Taiwan.

Energy efficient options extend far beyond just products. Many people adopt energy efficient practices in the interest of lowering their energy bill or simply for the benefit of the environment. Examples of such actions include unplugging items when they are not in use to lessen occurrences of vampire drain. Other choices include optimizing products for their energy use. Lowering the brightness of a laptop's screen is one example, keeping a fan running on low is another.
