Renewable Energy FAQs
Who is the IPCC?
The IPCC is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This is a scientific intergovernmental group which evaluates the risk of anthropogenic climate change. It was established in 1988. Today, their reports are widely cited in debates related to climate change.
How do solar panels work?
Solar panels create electricity through the photovoltaic effect. Light energy comes from the sun in the form of protons which knock loose electrons within a semi-conductor material, creating an electric current. The most commonly utilized semi-conductor material for this application is crystalline silicon. Thin-film cells may also use cadmium telluride.
What is biomass?
Biomass is biological material that has come from either living organisms or organism that were recently living. It is a renewable energy resource. Wood, waste, and alcohol fuels are examples of biomass. Fossil fuels were originally biomass. However, they do not fall under this definition today because their carbon has been out of the carbon cycle for millions of years.
