Solar Energy

Solar energy comes from the sun in the forms of both heat and light. There are many ways through which it can be applied. Here are a few examples:

•A lot of the discussion related to solar energy involves the creation of electricity.  This can be accomplished through the use of solar cells or concentrated solar power. The electricity may also be developed indirectly by having heat from the sun cause the rotation of a few turbines.

•Solar energy in the form of heat is used to provide for both heating and cooling needs within the home and many other buildings. Solar chimneys and passive solar building design are two possibilities within this option.

•Heat from the sun may also be used to accomplish cooking needs through the use of a solar oven.

•Photoelectrochemical cells may be used to generate hydrogen.
